City Walk, Leeds – Denmark to the Rescue!

In December 2013 we were contacted by Triton Construction Ltd who were in the process of re-furbishing City walk in Leeds – a relatively new office block – that required updating to the demands of the modern property market.

The building is identified by nine stainless steel clad columns on the front elevation. Over time these columns had become discoloured by some ugly brown stains that completely ruined the first visual impression of the building to existing and intending tenants.

We tried several “traditional” chemical remedies, including a strong masonry detergent and a mild alkali that produced an improvement but not a complete solution. Finally, via some contacts amongst our friends in the stainless steel fabrication industry, we discovered a Danish chemical that has been successfully used in the cleaning of stainless steel urinals. The very satisfactory results are shown below. Our reputation of “problem solvers” remaining happily intact.
